DS9 S5E25. Holy fucking shit, they jumped the shark

I never saw the episode "In the Cards" before today. It was surreal.

After 11 years of being fed Venus Project propaganda, this episode is a violent departure from the usual smacking of the Berkley pulpit.

The entire thing actually preached that selfish interests can improve life for everyone. It praised Ferengi values as a path to happiness. And it did this while telling a good story and not ramming it down your throat.

Hate to say it but I think the death of Gene Roddenberry was the best thing to happen for Star Trek.

Man, Sisko is still my favorite captain. Had the most believable relationship with his son of any Star Trek family. He actually had a personality and quirks and moods you could read.

It's a shame DS9 was mediocre science fiction at best, and mostly just space drama.

Yeah, it's hard to have equal dedication to science and humanity. You usually gotta move a spider between the two.

The Abyss by James Cameron is the best balance I can think of.
