Re: The best part about the Fallacist's Fallacy...
For anyone else who followed the link here from facebook. The next iteration of the RR is underway, no eta just yet beyond "soon." But this is available as an option in the interim, just beware of the spam bots.
phpbb is horrible for many reasons.

Re: Been kinda quiet lately
Admittedly I haven't posted anything either. What happened to everyone? Haven't felt like starting new topics, of course, I'm also largely ignoring the news currently. Seems to be an ongoing train wreck, pretty much as expected. Seems I wasn't the only only one with low expectations, other places I...

Re: Rotten, here's some Rebar for you.
Well, melt it anyhow. Allegedly, it is easier to work with in terms of cutting it. It also is much lighter, and slightly more elastic. What it doesn't do better than Rebar is bend into shapes. If you want to do that, you have the heat the stuff up to some very high temps. Evidently it makes for some...

Re: I sincerely believed Eugenebew was just TD...
Well, that is handy. Updated PHPBB today, and now it comes with built in support for Google's ReCaptcha service, which has now been enabled. Let the bots fight it out with Google.
We'll see how many make it through in due time, no doubt.

Accept no substitutes.
I was generating walls of text years before spam bots trying to game their way into generating "context-relevant" hits for their designated site to improve search engine rankings were even fully conceived.

Well, it detected you logged in, it just didn't keep the session active in your client for whatever reason? It can be quirky at times, I know being on a Cellular Internet connection and traveling around a lot, I tend to have to log in every time I start a new session, even with cookies enabled, beca...

Re: Wikileaks rumor: HIllary wanted to drone strike Assange
Apparently Assange's presser today was complete nothing. Everyone was so hyped about an October Surprise. He almost delayed it until tomorrow. Then it was maybe cancelled over security concerns. In the end it was just a feel good about 10 years of Wikileaks and all the important work they've done. ...

Not inclined to back a Parkinson's diagnosis here. That's Michael J. Fox and Cassius Clay/Mohamed Ali stuff there, she'd be dancing/weaving around, and her speech would be more bizarre. Unless she was early onset, but as this has been going on for years now....

Re: delay the South.
Why would you stay somewhere you hated? I don't get that. Lack of employment/living options elsewhere, I would imagine. Not many people undertake long-distance moves without having a job lined up on the other side. For the ones that do, you usually find the independently wealthy(or at least, well e...

That's because theirs is directed inward more than anything else.
Ours is more generally inclined to look outward. Or to bastardize Patton: We'd rather make the other guy did for his "dishonor" rather than die for our own.

Re: SpaceX landed another rocket
Unless you plan on dropping that space rock on planet earth itself, you're still going to need to move the equipment into orbit. If the governments had any say in the matter, it would be a very high orbit at that(well above where the geosynchronous satellites operate). Which means you're at the poin...

You're starting to sound like diefortheswarm. He used to argue that faster-than-light travel was inevitable because of inane distractions like Moore's Law. You're going to have to come up with a far more compelling argument than "3D printers and plasma TV's" to justify this, dude. They're examples ...

Re: SpaceX landed another rocket
Gaining that initial "(industrial) foothold" in space is going to be godawfully expensive and undoubtedly will run into the tens of billions of dollars. But the thing is, the people/corporations or nations who pulls it off are going to be in a very economically dominate position... There is never g...

Re: SpaceX landed another rocket
The 3D printing is relevant in the context of machines starting to reach the point of building other machines like themselves. Of course, there is the raw materials chain to work through as well, it will need to be processed once mined, then the processed ore needs to be refined, and so on before it...

But until some actual attempts are made, fully cognizant of them being exactly that, an attempt. Further progress towards resolving the issue will not happen in the i...

If it weren't for all our social issues, I'd say we were living in the damn future. Here's hoping we can make it to Mars before we backslide into the dark ages again. Re: DNC convention meltdown
There is still a dearth of empirical evidence indicating what a Trump presidency will actually look like. So I still wonder what these "consequences" are. Agreed, aside from a very small number of issues, I expect he would turn out to be boringly centrist on most things. Assuming he doesn't try to ...

Re: Ghostbusters Trailer Reactions
The Ghostbusters reboot movie is a decent work of comedy. I just needed to constantly remind myself that Dan Akryod said they always viewed it(Ghostbusters) primarily as a comedy during (more than) a few points in the movie.
Also, the progression of the story was rather clunky.

I don't know who to vote for. Either Trump or Johnson at this point, personally. Not that I would ever "support Trump". He cannot keep his mouth shut and I'm partially frightened of aspects of a Trump Presidency. But the same thing goes for Hillary too. I'm less concerned about Trump because if he ...

We'll see. Considering how moribund Trump's campaign is, it's amazing he's even this close. Hasn't everything about Trump's campaign been a bit of a surprise? Indeed. I'm surprised they're trying to regulate that. Can't have people running around hurting themselves with low quality homemade swords. Or worse yet, hurting others.
